The Voice of Reassurance

This guy had his phone to his ear whilst working his tablet.

And all he kept saying was...

"Don't worry. It will be fine. I'm on my way to the site now. It will all be fine."

And then he would jab and scroll and look at something.

"It will be fine. I'm going there now, I will be there in an hour."

Point. Scroll.

"There's nothing to worry about."

Q

This guy worked for Network Q. It said so on his fleece.

He had brilliant definition on his eyes, and the sunlight only caught that even more. He was talking to two girls who sat, one aside him, one opposite, which meant he kept moving his head from one to another, and I had four goes at starting a sketch before I got something down I felt happy with.

Uh oh !

I have run out of sketches. Have been focused on other stuff lately and haven't kept up the sketching. And now I have run out.

So you will have to be content with this quick one of a railway worker in the distance.

It was done as a visual reminder. And is the only thing left that I have to amuse you, and myself, with.

Must get out more.

Hard workers

This guy was working hard on his laptop in a Starbucks in Pimlico.

I am breaking my rule again because I do know him, but if I don't say it here I am assured of protecting his anonymity.

The same day I found out that Mozart wrote his first symphony in a terraced house near Victoria bus station. He was only eight at the time so would have traveled free if Leopold had a super saver return.

Ladies who cyberlunch

Anna Wintour on the Thames link train from Bedford !!! Well I never.

This Lady and her friend were discussing Facebook, and the whole Social network thing.

"It's great as far as it goes, but I find it all so static, you meet people and it's good and all, but when do you get to interact, and develop things further ?"

She waved her painted nails in emphasis.

"I argue with my work colleagues all the time, and we disagree about all sorts of things, but that moves our relationship on from just work, you know"

"Facebook you don't really get to interact with people. So what is the point ? "

The June edition coming along nicely then ?

( Disclaimer - any resemblance to real powerhouse fashion magazine editors is entirely coincidental, and big sunglasses are not, when I last looked, a trademarkable item )

242 - smart

Like how this smart, neat, seriously together business woman...

...produced a smart, neat little sketch.

How much does the outward appearance of the subject affect the way you draw them, the marks you make, the way your hand moves ? That sounds head slappingly obvious, but do you know what I mean? Does your assumed 'mood' of a person spill over into yourself as you draw them ? Is sketching someone the closest to an empathic connection you can ever have with strangers ?

Intent at Channel 4 ( 134-135 )

Was waiting in the offices of Channel 4 Scotland, and should have been concentrating on what I was doing, ( or rather was about to do ), but nervous as hell, so distracted myself by drawing one of the office girls as she typed up a dictated letter.
She was so focused on her work, and oblivious of us three sitting, fretting, like anxious toads on the sofa in the corner.
I was told her name, but have forgotten it. I should have written it down.

Fax facts track back.

Now this is a bit of a memory excavation. Was at work, standing at my drawing board, and this guy came in to use the fax machine, ( and this isn't all that long ago, and only serves to highlight how the e-mail has conquered all ) I liked his sun glasses pushed back on his head, so snuck a quick sketch.
He was with the effects crew, and I am pretty certain he was organizing the snow for later on, but I may be wrong on that.
This is one of those drawings that brings back every element of the moment. Where I was standing, the room we were in, what we were all doing - the exact moment.
I had worked in this room twice before, which warrants note. Once marking out floor plans when it was serving as the rehearsal room on a Police drama, and once painting an 8ft high model of the Elephant God Ganesh, whilst stuffing myself sick with product placement crisps.

Happy days.

The snow by the way, was brilliant. It looked so real, even though you knew it wasn't.
