Intent

At a lecture in October.

And this guy was listening with total concentration.

Which I obviously wasn't as I found the time to sketch the audience.

The odd line coming from his head was my first line for his hood, which shows how drawings move about on the page as you draw them.

Also like how I had to redraw his nose a second time.

Still keeping warm

I loved this guy's fur hood. No real reason...

... it was just a great shape.

It was a Timberland coat. I know this because, look, I faithfully drew the logo. Does that count as advertising, have I just sold my soul ?

Naah. My soul was bartered for a bag of licorice years ago.

Red Hoodie

Have been a bit unenthusiastic about posting these past few weeks.

But this sketch got me excited enough to log in and load up.

Love it when colour makes such an unmissable appearance like that.

Especially on these grey and white days we are having at the moment.

In the Hood

Red Riding and Robin knew a thing or two.

There ain't nothing like a hood for comfort. Forget the modern connotations, hoods offer protection from the world, from it's weather and inquisitiveness and presence.

Just ask any medieval monk.

'cos when you/re in there the world is blinkered out and it's just you... and your headphones and text messages.

These two know this all to well, and are going for the extra belt and braces of an umbrella, just in case.

Hood

Now this was an amazing hood. You could have got three people underneath it. It had to be drawn.

It gave the guy almost comic book proportions, bulking him out way beyond normal shoulders. He must have been sweating underneath it all.

108

On the train into town yesterday ( to take a friend to see the birds on guitars at the Barbican ) so the perfect time to grab a few new drawings.
Sat opposite this guy, liked how his shaved head and fur lined hood made him almost Monk like.
He was, I assume, a web site designer, because he was suggesting ways to format a drop down menu on fragrance types, " you could have resins, florals, sandalwood, maybe alphabetical. I've had an idea. Are you there ? Are you there ? " as we dropped down into a tunnel and he lost the signal.
Caught his mouth open, talking, which I always find tricky.
And loved the retro fur edged coat hood. He had every texture going on.

Sorry about the page spine getting dark down the middle. Didn't press the book flat when I was scanning. Was eating a cheese sandwich instead.

Priorities.
