Did a sketchbook for the Brooklyn Art Library. Great fun.
Here are a few pages from it.
Sent it off and just got na e mail back saying it has arrived. That gives me great pleasure. I will post a link to it when it has been scanned and is viewable on their site.

New book.
Have a new sketch book. It's a sort of cheap imitation Moleskine, but I like it a lot. It's pages are yellowy creamy smooth and good for pen.
These were done on the tram in Manchester one saturday.
I liked how this guy was sitting in the seat in front of his friends, and sat sideways with his arm over the seat to talk to them.

It had to happen
Sooner or later...
Was on the train, sketching, when a guy sat opposite, and got out a sketchbook. He threw me the quickest of glances, taking in my sketchbook and pen, then got down to work, sketching someone behind me.
So I couldn't ignore him could I.

Bit of a catch up - 3 in 1
Three more from the old sketch books.
Always liked the way this one fills the square of the page, his outstretched arm and ramrod straight back. This man possesses his world.
Getting behind on the postings a bit. Alway knew it would be a challenge to keep this up when work started to get more insistent.
And for the life of me cannot remember anything about any of these people worth writing about. So bang goes that boast.

Sketch 3
This is the kind of sketch I enjoy doing, when you simply draw a continuous line around the page, following the subject with your eyes as you do so, and trying to catch as much as possible with as few lines. This sketch is from a few years back, it was a hot summer morning on the Docklands light railway, heading towards Greenwich. ( I was working there at the time. ) I think I can even be accurate enough to say it was draw between Limehouse and West India Quay stations. I can still see the guy leaning on the seat division by the door as the light passed behind him. Sketch books are great for that, they can capture the whole moment of drawing in your memory, not just the subject, but where you were, how you felt, the weather, the light...
Elbows are brilliant things to draw. There is such a specific curve and weight to them, that swell of forearm muscle leading up to the dual points made by the head of the humerus. Very satisfying.
