Border breaking

A 20 min pose from last Thursday session.

Like how the figure is outside the border at the bottom and behind it at the top. Completely accidental but something I am going to explore some more. A happy accident.

But I also think I have made the torso just a bit too long here.

Always forwards.

The red continues.....

From the other Sunday at St Albans...

Like the small marks of colour around the torso.

Red Again

Continuing the theme.

More red

I think this was a 10 min pose, so not a huge amount of time, but it benefits from that as it is just big washes of two colours, with a quick drop of shadow just to sit the body down.

And walk away from it.

Good model.

RRREEEEEEEDDDDDD

Say it like Chiwetel Ejiofor in "Kinky Boots". Rrrreeeeeeeeeeddddddduuuhhh.

One of the developments last year was the suggestion and adoption of red backgrounds.

Stops the skin colours looking so dead, like they do on black.

Will post some other examples over the next few days.

Lady ( in red )

Ah the memories that song brings back ! Those innocent days.

Tried to limit myself to one colour for this one, seeing how much depth I could get.

Alizarin crimson ( which I alway think should be the name of a Russian Cosmonaut. )

A friend has pointed out her armpit area should probably be darker, and he is right. But it was tricky to maintain the degrees of shade when the brush got to the point where it could only either put the paint on or take it off, but not layer it.

Maybe, now it has had a few days to dry it might take to a little additional shading.

Might try that.

Happy Easter.

It just occurs to me I should have found a rabbit to sketch and post. Oh well. Too late.

Instead, two girls with long hair. ( No pun intended )

This girl, her hair was such an undeniable red, and her skin was so pale, and enveloped in a big grey scarf, she was almost a tinted daguerreotype of a girl.

Limited colours, held in check.

Red Hoodie

Have been a bit unenthusiastic about posting these past few weeks.

But this sketch got me excited enough to log in and load up.

Love it when colour makes such an unmissable appearance like that.

Especially on these grey and white days we are having at the moment.

The colour red.

Watched THREE COLOURS RED last night. Film loves red ( well, some film stock more than others, but we won't go into that now, especially when more and more is shot on digital - and, funnily, the most popular digital camera system - or at least the one I come across most - is called RED  ) Red shoes, Red balloons,  Red lanterns, Red river ( black and white I know, but bear with me )

And I was thinking about Dufy's theory that colour stays on the retina longer, but it seems to me that some colours, especially red, catch the eye sooner, so maybe they only seem to register longer. How does the eye see color ? Anyone know. Need to go look it up.

This woman's coat was the most brilliant red. Haven't done it justice here.

Hang on, maybe I can...

There, that's what it was like.

Where does the week go ?

I swear, at the moment, there is a time eating succubus sitting on my shoulder and as soon as I wake up on Monday it inhales the week, and it's over before I've even rubbed the sleep out of my eyes.

So...

Everyone has their winter coats back on, so soon, so soon.

Collars up, eyes down, plough through another winter.

This guy's coat was bright red, so at least he was making the effort.
